Impeachment Informational Session

Community Activist Ted DeSoyza will host a meeting at WESPAC to push forward the impeachment process of Dick Cheney and George Bush.
She will show "Crimes Against Humanity: The Bush Record" which is a 45 minute dvd followed by discussion: Thursday, January 24th at 12 noon at WESPAC. There will be an evening screening of the film in New Rochelle (details to be announced).

There are various groups in Westchester working on this issue. Congressman Wexler has set up a website and would like at least half a million Americans to sign up and register their intent to see impeachment proceedings begin this year. So far over 200,000 people have signed up (www.wexlerwantshearings.com)

Film Series on Race and Race Relations

The Fourth Unitarian Society of Westchester County will be hosting a film and discussion series on Race and Race Relations called "We Need To Talk". We will be screening "American Blackout". This film won a Special Jury Prize at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. The LA Times calls it “a muckraking indictment of the systematic disenfranchisement of African American voters.” These film nights will continue on the second Saturday of each month. Snacks will be provided. All are welcome.

The Westchester Coalition for the Hungry and Homeless has cancelled the public protest originally scheduled for Dec.19th at the Ritz-Carleton opening. Next week the Coalition will announce future plans unless the remaining critical issues have been satisfactorily resolved.

The League of Women Voters® of Westchester has invited the county’s state legislators to a “Coffee and Conversation” to be held on Friday, December 14, 2007 starting at 9:30 am in the Auditorium of the White Plains Public Library, 100 Martine Avenue, White Plains. The format will be an informal, roundtable discussion that is open to the public.
The League’s invitation to the members of the county’s state delegation describes the event as “an opportunity to meet with each other and the public in an informal setting to discuss issues that are of interest to Westchester residents, including: HAVA implementation, education funding, Medicaid, plans for monitoring/improving infrastructure facilities (e.g., the Tappan Zee Bridge), and the MTA.”

Crime and Immigration Forum

Assemblyman Greg Ball (R - Carmel) is hosting a public forum in North
Salem this week to help address residents' growing concerns regarding an
increase in criminal incidents, attributed to increased illegal immigration and
the presence of sexual predators in our community.

The public and all members of the press are encouraged to attend and
share their public safety concerns with the Assemblyman. If you would like
to present testimony at the forum, please bring a written outline of your
remarks, with your contact information, to the event.

The ideas gathered from the forum will be used in the creation of new
state legislation and will also help the Assemblyman when advocating for the
public on a local level, with our local elected officials and public
safety outlets. Accordingly, local elected officials and employees are
strongly encouraged to attend and participate.
